Borderlands Cycle Route

The Borderlands Cycle Route between the Border city of Carlisle and the border town of Berwick upon Tweed.
The proposal to implement the Borderlands Cycle Route across the diameter of the Borderlands as another ‘sea to sea’ experience by linking section of existing cycle routes is an easy win in terms of delivery cost, delivery time and its unique attraction. Its not a known route, the scenery is amazing and the remote countryside it passes through which includes the Forgotten Lands area, is greatly in need of visitors and their spending power.
The route is 100% on suitable existing roads most of which are signed as part of other cycle routes. The direct route is just over 100 miles long and will provide an appealing challenge to ‘fit and the fast’ cyclists whilst the more circuitous route provides a more leisurely cycle tour linking more villages and refreshment opportunities. The alignment journey has countless stories to tell and is bursting with opportunities to build on a range of themes including heritage, land types and use, changing terrain, topography, buildings, social amenities, language and dialect, culture and customs.
