Border Drovers Cycle Route

The Borders Drovers Cycle Route by MTB between Jedburgh and the Tyne valley 90 km / 56 miles
It is proposed to promote this unwaymarked mountain bike route as a two day journey between Southern Scotland and Northern England but also as a journey over time. Beginning at Jedburgh, the route traverses the Cheviot Hills into Northumberland on historical ways following the Roman road Dere Street and a sequence of medieval tracks and packhorse trails which link to asphalted Bridleways over MOD Otterburn.
The mainly tarmacked historical route-way through the length of MOD Otterburn can only be used during non firing days in which case the identified loop to the west should be taken. A western option avoids the restricted MOD section entirely providing accommodation at Byrness and Greenhaugh.
The route for Day 2 follows the same south-easterly alignment across very scenic and gradually less remote countryside between Elsdon and Matfen after which it splits to end at either Prudhoe or Corbridge.
