The Sandstone Way

Designed by Ted Liddle and launched in March 2015, The Sandstone Way is a 120 mile mountain bike route across the diagonal of Northumberland linking numerous sandstone features.

The Reivers Cycle Routes - re-energised

The long distance Reivers Cycle Routes are a brace of signed / waymarked bi-directional ‘coast to coast’ cycle routes between Tynemouth on the North Sea and Maryport on the Irish Sea. New route map designed, published and launched.

Dozen Dales Cycle Routes - proposed

The Dozen Dales by Road & by MTB are two intertwining cycle routes between Wooler at the north end of Northumberland National Park and Skipton at the south end of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Esk2Esk Cycle Routes honed - proposed

The Esk2Esk Cycle Routes by Road & by MTB are two intertwining cycle routes between Eskdale in West Cumbria and the Esk Valley on the East coast.

Border Drovers Route by MTB - proposed

The Borders Drovers Cycle Route by MTB between Jedburgh and the Tyne valley 90 km / 56 miles.

Tour of Cheviots & Kielder by road bike - proposed

The bi-directional Road bike Tour of Cheviot & Kielder is a circular all tarmac cycle route which most competent cyclists will ride in two days or less.

The Gravel Bike tour of the Three Northumberland Dales (2021)

This scenic three day bi-directional loop links a number of isolated communities as it passes through some of Northumberland’s finest and remotest scenery - to be launched in June 2021.

Kielder Forest Area Gravel Bike Trails Network (2020)

In Autumn 2018 Ted was tasked by Forestry England at Kielder to devise a 200 km Gravel Bike Trails Network in Kielder Forest linking Hadrian’s Wall Country, the North Tyne Valley, The ‘Forgotten Lands in North East Cumbria and Newcastleton in the Scottish Borders; a cross border initiative involving England and Scotland and three local authorities – ongoing.
